Process of Teeth Whitening

Consultation: Your teeth whitening journey at Mālama Dental begins with a thorough consultation and exam. We’ll review your dental and medical history, discuss your smile goals, and determine the best whitening option for you. This visit may also include digital X-rays, a professional dental cleaning, and a personalized treatment plan.

In-Office Whitening: During your in-office whitening session, a protective barrier is applied to your gums, followed by the application of a professional-strength whitening gel. A special light may be used to accelerate and enhance the whitening process. Treatment typically takes about one hour and can dramatically brighten your smile in a single visit.

Take-Home Whitening Kit: If you prefer whitening at home, we’ll create custom-fitted trays and provide professional-grade whitening gel. You’ll wear the trays for a set amount of time each day, usually for 1 to 2 weeks, to gradually achieve a whiter, brighter smile.

Next Steps

Post-Treatment Care: To maintain your whiter smile, follow these aftercare tips:

• Wear your custom trays with sensitivity gel for 2–4 hours as needed to help reduce sensitivity.
• Once sensitivity improves, you may continue at-home whitening using the recommended gels (15% or 35%).
• Use a straw when drinking beverages to minimize staining.
• Avoid stain-causing foods and drinks, such as coffee, wine, berries, and tomato-based sauces, for at least 48 hours.
• Do not smoke or use tobacco products to help preserve your bright results.
